Do you know what a fitness desert is? It's an area that doesn't have facilities that make it easy for people to pursue fitness: no parks, no gyms, no playgrounds. There are fitness deserts all over the US, and people have a hard time finding places to exercise.
Welch would like to join a gym, but there’s only one option nearby, and most days it’s so crowded she can’t get time on a machine. There are no parks in her immediate neighborhood, either. She’s one of millions of people who live in a “fitness desert,” areas with few opportunities for exercise.
Parkour can be an oasis in the fitness desert. You don't need special equipment or environments to do it, and you really can train anywhere. For me, playing around in a parking lot full of curbs is way more fun than jogging around a track or on a machine in a gym.
Don't have a park near you? How about a parking lot or a picnic table or a flight of stairs? Start looking at your environment as full of possibilities instead of empty.

Brian Orosco finished with the 3rd best overall time at the Summit Outdoor Invitational obstacle course competition this summer. Here's video of some of his runs
I'm really impressed with Brian's confidence in running long jumps - he was first to break the faster jump to the top of the silo in the beginning of the 1st course and he flies through the 3rd course even with the tricky footing. One of the few who took his time with the first runs through each course to establish them as well :)
Frosti (Fresh) finished with the 4th best overall time (and took 1st in the 1st and 3rd individual courses) at the Summit Outdoor Invitational obstacle course competition this summer. Here's video of some of his runs:
Frosti's sprinting speed was unmatched at this comp - easily taking 1st at the 1st and 3rd speed courses with his first attempt on both! (competitors get two attempts on each course) The climbing finale slowed him down for the final score but be sure to watch through as he blows away everyone on the 3rd course :)
