Bonus Day! Our one-day fundraising challenge

Matched donations today up to 130%

Donate at this link

Today only our fundraising partner GlobalGiving is matching donations made to us at 30% and putting up two $1,000 prizes to those organizations raising the most and having the most donors.

An anonymous donor is also challenging our community to spread the word about today by matching your donation 100% more if you share it on Facebook or by email afterwards. Just let us know you shared it by posting or commenting on our Facebook Page and your donation turns 130% more effective :) (230% if you work at a corporation that matches donations like Microsoft or Starbucks). There is $1,000 in the pool for this challenge and you don't need to share how much you donated if you don't want to as GlobalGiving will tell us the total.

The details

As we're now through our initial budget for buildout on the new gym space we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for you to spur the growth of the gym and tell us what we should build next! All of our operating costs are being covered by membership dues now so these donations will be going towards improvements of the gym space, our outreach programs, and ofsetting the costs of sponsorships to disadvantaged students (which we tend to always need to seek additional funding for apart from memberships)

On our priority list is the rock climbing wall, remodeling the bathrooms, and building out the community area / kitchen - what do you want to see next?

Fridays as open schedule days

great photo by annshi

All Friday classes/open gym canceled from Sept. 2nd onwards

We've come to realize that having classes every single day of the week makes it really difficult to schedule special events, build new things for the gym, and just have general parties and fun stuff with all of the staff. In particular there is a lot more building that we want to do seeing as how we only really had 8 days to prep the new gym before moving in (long story). Having entire days dedicated to it means we can run volunteer build days again and get much more done.

Choosing a day was difficult but we've decided to elimate Fridays from the schedule for the time being. This will cancel our Friday homechooling class, kids level 3 class, adult basics class, adults outdoor lvl2 class, and open gym. Friday has been our least attended day for awhile now and hopefully won't affect too many people (contact us if this affects your membership or ability to come).

In it's place we'll be scheduling a good deal of building days for the months to come. The priorities aren't all set yet but on the agenda we're looking at: remodeling the bathrooms, creating the rock wall, walling out the kitchen/community room, moving the parent's viewing area, and generally just making the gym nicer to be in :) If you have ideas or want to help out, let myself or Eric know! (tyson@parkourvisions.org, eric@parkourvisions.org)

Use this open day as an opportunity to train yourself outdoors, either alone or with friends! Ian Schwartz, one of our intermediate students, is already scheduling 6:30pm at Gasworks as regular training session for the intermediate curriculum. For updates on that and any other scheduled sessions (or to start your own) check the Parkour Visions Facebook page.

PS: We are also closed for Labor Day (9/5) this year, so this weekend will be a long one for everyone :)

Overcoming obstacles. Literally » My Ballard

On a rainy Friday night, ten young boys are flying off wooden blocks, swinging on metal bars, and, literally, climbing the walls.  It’s a young boy’s dream in this garage-turned-gym on the Ballard/Fremont line: for two hours, these kids get to fly around the room like spider monkeys in a zoo.

Thanks to Meghan for coming to take a class herself and learn what it is all about!

Schedule change 2/28 - More kids classes, better adult class times!

Since January, our kids program has filled up almost completely, and we’re getting new students all the time! Also, we’ve been hearing that it’s sometimes difficult for our adult students to get here by 5:30pm. So we’ve made some changes to our schedule on Mondays and Thursdays to make sure everyone can participate.

Here’s what Mondays and Thursdays look like now:

Monday:
  • 4:00-5:00 Kids Basics
  • 5:00-6:00 Kids Basics
  • 6:00-7:30 Adult Basics
  • 7:00-8:30 Adult Level 2
Thursday:
  • 4:00-5:00 Kids Basics
  • 5:00-6:00 Kids Basics
  • 6:00-7:30 Adult Basics
  • 7:00-8:30 Adult Level 3
Adult level 2 and level 3 classes will still meet at 7pm and work on mobility and warmups in the back room.

And remember: sign in online ahead of time to make sure you have a spot in class!

Hope that works well, and we’ll see you in class!
